Barcelona, 16 December 2020-. Mobile World Capital Barcelona, through the 5G Barcelona programme, has sealed a collaboration agreement with the Dutch entrepreneurship platform WorldStartup to strengthen its international growth. The alliance with WorldStartup will lead to different activities that will have an impact both on 5G Barcelona and on other MWCapital initiatives and programs, promoting health and smart mobility projects.
WorldStartup is a global entrepreneurship platform that speeds up transition to fair, sustainable societies by giving support to startups and entrepreneurs in all their processes, from the initial idea to scalability. Its global group of support organizations offer training for innovators with specific objectives, tools, resources, and networks.
According to Carlos Grau, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona “Spain is a European benchmark for the development of 5G pilot projects, which will be crucial in the exploration of future applications. The agreement with WorldStartup will enable us to give amore international scope to these shared projects based on its proven experience in entrepreneurship and innovation”.
"The cooperation with Mobile World Capital Barcelona extends our network with leading international innovation hubs and builds forward on the leading digital infrastructure and innovation ecosystem from theNetherlands." Gerrit Jan van ‘t Veen, CEO of WorldStartup added. “5G is leading to new use cases and we are looking forward to working and exploring these together with Mobile World Capital. Barcelona is the hometown for the mobile industry with MWC Barcelona and we are eager to work together from WorldStartup with MWCapital on showcases for MWC21 and beyond." Mark Beermann, Associate Partner WorldStartup TECH closed off.
The two entities will work together on health and smart mobility projects that have proven to be priorities and of great growth at the moment. Technology can allow a better health system, favoring interconnectivity between centers and professionals, consultations between specialists, remote surgeries, etc. The pandemic has also forced to rethink city models from the point of view of mobility. Work is being done to reduce private traffic, giving more prominence to public transport and offering new spaces to citizens, while continuing to promote the connected car.
5G Barcelona is a public-private partnership that is working to position Barcelona and Catalonia as an open, innovative environment for the validation and adoption of 5G technologies and applications in real-life.
The initiative will create synergies within the 5G ecosystem and offer an experimental infrastructure for testing, creating prototypes and implementing new digital solutions. 5G Barcelona is intended to stimulate and consolidate already-existing innovation in Barcelona and Catalonia, to help to attract foreign investment, to boost new technology companies and to generate a complete industry based on 5G technology.
The initiative is promoted by the Regional Government of Catalonia, Barcelona City Hall, Mobile World Capital Barcelona, i2CAT, CTTC,Atos and the UPC.
